Bob Newby is a character from the Netflix science fiction horror series Stranger Things. He is portrayed by actor Sean Astin.
Bob first appears in Season 2, Episode 1, "MADMAX," as Joyce Byers' kind and supportive boyfriend. He is a former high school classmate of Joyce and Sheriff Hopper.
Working at RadioShack, Bob represents a sense of normalcy and optimism in the increasingly chaotic world of Hawkins, Indiana. His computer skills prove unexpectedly useful in deciphering some of the mysteries surrounding Will Byers' condition and the Upside Down.
Despite his good intentions and bravery, Bob's arc ends tragically, solidifying his role as a beloved, albeit short-lived, member of the Stranger Things ensemble.
